Planting the Seeds of Learning

This week our children spent some time planting on the Naturescape. Our children have had the opportunity to observe not only growth in the garden but also the natural cycle of death. As some of the plants have experienced the hot Texas sun, they couldn’t quite keep up the natural cycle of photosynthesis. Miss Cheri talked about this with the children and helped them replace some of the plants and flowers that did not make it. The children loved using the real shovels and preparing the soil for the new flowers.

Growing Confidence

It is amazing to see how much the children are beginning to enjoy the Naturescape and caring for the plants. Some of our younger campers who have sometimes stood by to observe the caring process for the plants have become more confident of their abilities to become involved. This week our two year old children took turns using the lager watering cans to water the plants and flowers. The others stood by watching carefully until it was there turn. These children are really flourishing this summer and are looking forward to not being the youngest children on campus!

Harvesting Lifelong Friendships

This week we had a much anticipated visit from the Fairies. Our children, with your help, spent lots of time collecting different items for their very own class fairy houses. Each class spent time talking about the houses they wanted to build and what pieces would be necessary to construct. In some classes, children were even given specific jobs such as architect, furniture designer, and landscapers. The children worked very hard together to make their visions become a reality. Not only did this help foster a great sense of community within the classrooms but it also created a feeling of pride from within each child to see the completed project. If you have some extra time, ask your child to take you Fairy House Hunting on the Naturescape. This project was really finished with quite a surprise when some actual Fairies, who happen to be a part of the Camp Chai play, came to visit the children and tell them how much they appreciated their houses!
